Lending Library
What is the lending library?
The National Watch and Clock Museum’s Library & Research Center
is one of the largest horological libraries in the world. A
collection consisting of over 5,000 books, catalogs, and periodicals
dealing with all aspects of the study of time and timekeeping is
available to members of the National Association of Watch & Clock
Collectors.
What are the advantages of membership?
Library On-Line
As a member, you can access our on-line card catalog right from
your home computer. When browsing for a particular resource, a user
can locate books by author, subject, title, key words, etc.
Special collections materials include 21,000 American patents;
postcards dealing with horological subjects; postal stamps showing
timekeeping devices; videos, including the well-known Longitude
documentary; ledgers and drawings from the Hamilton Watch Company;
the Whitaker Westclox collection; and the personal papers of such
noted horologists as Jesse Coleman, Orville Hagans, Barclay
Stephens, Robert Franks, James W. Gibbs, Albert Potter, and Charles
Alvah Smith.
Borrowing Materials
One of the most convenient perks of membership is the ability to
borrow materials from the library at virtually no cost! Just fill
out our lending form available on-line or on the back of the mailing
sheet sent with each issue of the Bulletin. Any materials
requested can be sent to your home through the postal service. We
ask that you simply send them back by the assigned due date.
