         Using a Jewelers Lathe II                                                

Participant will learn how to make different watch parts by using the jewelers lathe. Proper preparation and sharpening of cutting tools will also be demonstrated. The following areas will be covered:

Lathe Safety

Types of cutting tools used on the lathe

Preparing, shaping and sharpening your cutting tools

Advanced parts making consisting of:

    •      Staffs
    •      Stems
    •      Jewel Settings
    •      Screws
    •        Repivoting

The participant must have prior experience with a jewelers lathe to be successful in this class.

Tools Student Required to Bring:

·        Selection of eye loupes 10x, 4x

·        Tweezers 3 or 3C

·        Parts tray w/ cover

·        Pin vice to hold 1/8 square graver

·        Needle/Escapement files

·        Sapphire file or burnisher

Optional Tools Student May Bring:

·        Pithwood

·        Rodico

                                                                    

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Monday-Friday,  between the hours of 8:00 and 4:30. This includes two 15 minute breaks and 1 hour for lunch.
