This workshop is an introduction to dial painting and restoration. Learn how to refurbish that old dial on your favorite clock. Topics covered will include:

  • A review of the dials to be restored
  • Fabrication of special tools
  • Paper dials
  • Wooden dials
  • Metal dials
  • Application of numerals, chapter rings, etc.
  • Corner painting
  • Application of gesso and gold leaf designs on wooden dials
  • Decorative painting


This workshop will enable the student to develop tools and techniques to recover simple metal and wood dials. The class is open to all. All materials and supplies are provided. The student is welcome to bring their own dials.

The 2 day workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology. The class will meet between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30. This includes two 15 minute breaks and 1 hour for lunch.
