Chapter Reports in the Bulletin

Chapter Highlights is a popular Bulletin feature in which chapters share meeting highlights with all BULLETIN readers, not just other chapter members. Chapter reporters, prior to writing your first chapter report, take time to read over the Chapter Highlights section of a recent BULLETIN to get ideas. Some reports are more interesting than others. The more detail you include about the horological and educational aspects of your meeting, the better.

Refer to our Chapter Highlights Guidelines below to help get started.

We have developed a Word document report form to help you in reporting your chapter’s horological activities.
Please remember to sign the form; your name will appear at the end of the published report in the BULLETIN.

Verify the names of members in your report—most members can be found in the online membership directory.

Prepare each report as soon as possible after your meeting.
Please do not wait until our deadline to mail your report. Last minute jam-ups cause problems.

NAWCC BULLETIN CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS GUIDELINES
FOR CHAPTER MEETING REPORTS

For Chapter Secretaries and/or Reporters
We would like to make Chapter Highlights in the BULLETIN as easy and interesting to read as possible. One way to do that is to bring consistency to the entire section—by utilizing subheads in each report so that every event or announcement is easy to find.

If possible, please create your reports with the below listed headings in mind. Use the downloadable Word .dot template. If you don’t have content for a section, just leave it blank. You are not constrained to these categories; additional text can be added in the comments box. Your creativity is greatly appreciated!

Please adhere to a total of 600 words for meeting reports, with no more than two meetings per report.

Other Tips
♦ Brief summaries of the educational content of programs and workshops, as well as activities relating to chapter and/or community-related horological projects make interesting reading.
♦ All watch, clock, or other horological items discussed should include a brief description of the item(s), without prices.
♦ Limit comment on social activities, auctions, and marts.
♦ Include future meeting schedules, featured topics, speakers, etc.

Editing
The Publications staff will edit each report as needed for length, clarity, spelling, grammar, and conformance to NAWCC policy. Topics subject to editing include pricing, controversy, and discussion of non-horological items. No treasurer’s reports will be included in the reports. Strict adherence to the 600-word limit will be maintained.

Photographs
Photos of both people and horological items are suitable. Captions should be typed or written on a piece of paper and attached to the back of the photo. Names of the people in each picture should be listed from left to right, and the spelling of their names carefully verified. Color or black and white prints are acceptable. Slides or negatives cannot be used. Digitized photos will be accepted, but must be high-resolution and have a .jpg or .tif file extension. The recommended dpi is 266 for BULLETIN quality. Complete photo scanning guidelines are available from the Publications Department. While any number of photographs may be sent, the Publications staff will determine the number published, usually one or two per chapter.

Byline
To give proper credit, all published reports will include the name of the person who reports the activities of the chapter meeting. Please be sure to include your name on your report.
