The simple hand drill has been used for many centuries for all sorts of crafts. To drill, pull the small ring. This pulls against the wheel and coils the rope while turning the drill bit. As you release the ring, the drill turns in the opposite direction. By pulling the ring repeatedly, a drilling motion is imparted to the bit.
