Friction
(interactive display at the Museum)

Timepiece movements have been made of many different materials, including wood, brass, bronze, steel, copper, and even plastic. Some of these materials produce more friction, or resistance, in a watch or clock movement than others.

All three wheels use a different bearing material. When visiting the Museum you can spin each one and observe the speed and duration of its spin.
