WS-102: Wooden Clock Movement Repair

Early American production clocks were made from wood which presents unique problems for the clock repairer.  This 2-day workshop will instruct students in the proper techniques used in the repair of these venerable nineteenth-century movements.  Topics to be covered include:

  • Proper cleaning methods
  • Techniques in rebushing
  • Verge adjustment
  • Pivot repair and replacement
  • Tooth repair and replacement

Data also will be furnished to enable students to identify the manufacturer of their woodworks movement.

Students are welcome to bring their own wooden movements, but those who do not have their own movements may borrow one from the instructor.  All other course materials will be furnished.

It should be noted that improper repair of these movements can greatly affect their value.
