Lesson Plan

WS-111: Servicing a Pocket Watch for the Beginner

Course Dates: August 2-3, 2008 (FULL); August 16-17, 2008;
September 27-28, 2008

This 2-day workshop will introduce students to the proper method to service a pocket watch.  The class will examine both American and Swiss watches.  Learn how to:

  • Remove the movement from the case
  • Examine and evaluate a movement
  • Disassemble the movement
  • Clean the movement
  • Re-assemble and lubricate the movement
  • Re-case, time and adjust the movement

This is a hands-on workshop open to both the beginner and the advanced collector.  All materials and tools will be supplied,  but students may bring their own watches.

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This includes two 15-minute breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.
