Lesson Plan

WS-117: Using a Micro Lathe for the Beginner

Course Dates: September 6-7, 2008

This 2-day workshop is an introduction to the use of the micro lathe.  The participants will learn the basic skills and techniques involved in the use of the micro lathe.  The topics covered will include:

  • Modern lathe characteristics
  • Machinable metals
  • Use of measuring tools
  • Setting up lathe tools
  • Turning
  • Boring and drilling
  • Screw cutting
  • Repivoting

This is a hands-on workshop open to all who are interested.  Although the class will focus on horological techniques, other subjects will be covered as well.  All materials, supplies, and machinery will be provided.

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This includes two 15-minute breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.
