Being able to get involved with local chapters may be one of the best features of NAWCC membership. By attending local chapter events and meetings, NAWCC members get to meet horology enthusiasts, experts, and collectors who live nearby. NAWCC members can also join special interest chapters. If there isn’t a chapter close to you, NAWCC can help members to start one. Check out chapter resources to help make meetings more successful.

Dave Smith gave a very interesting presentation at Chapter 89’s November meeting on “miniature” woodworks clocks. “Miniature” is generally assumed to mean 24” tall or less. Many of these were made in the 1830s time period. Some were considered “bedroom” clocks due to the compact size and may have included alarm mechanisms. Dave showed and discussed examples from his collection by Chauncey Jerome, Treat & Bishop, Jerome & Darrow, and John Kirk. Silas Hoadley made many of these in several different styles. Dave displayed one by Hiram Welton, who made some between 1840 and 1842 with two different types of movements. Eli Terry Jr. made a time-and-strike model with the Terry type 5 movement. Dave also showed and discussed a narrow pillar and scroll miniature clock by Erastus Hodges that has a Torrington movement.
