American Shelf Clock Tablets with Stenciled Borders
Experience a hands-on workshop with demonstrations by the instructor and then create actual stencil work on glass with patterns taken from original American shelf clock tablets circa 1830–1850. Gain a basic knowledge of how to prepare the glass, apply the varnish, measure for the application of the pattern, correct any mistakes, learn about the materials needed, trace and cut stencils, and finish the design. Enjoy a brief demonstration by the instructor on the application of gold leaf to glass, along with photographs of original clock tablets that have gold leaf borders and designs and original shelf clock tablets with stenciled designs.
Note: Due to the activities centered around the stenciling process, there will not be sufficient time to leave for lunch and still complete the activities. It is strongly recommended that you bring a packed lunch with you. Coffee, tea, and bottled water will be available, but please bring other refreshments you may wish to have.
Equipment & Materials: The instructor will provide all of the glass, bronzing powders, stencil knives, patterns, photographs, and other equipment needed. Each student should bring a desk lamp and an extension cord.
