Craft-A-Clock

Craft-A-Clock Workshop

Learn what makes a clock tick-tock, then take it home!

Description: In this workshop, participants will assemble a clock and learn what’s behind the dial of a time-only clock movement. The movements used in this course are skeletonized, allowing participants to see inside the clock to better understand how it works when it’s running. Participants will learn basic terms and become familiar with the clock’s fundamental parts. They will learn how a clock works by assembling the clock, lubricating it, and putting it into beat, so the satisfying tick-tock is heard! Once the workshop is finished, each participant will take home the clock they crafted.

Tools and Materials: All tools and materials will be provided, including a new Hermle Lakin or Mikal clock. There are five Lakin colors to choose from, and one color of Mikal. Selection of color and model is first come, first served. Be sure to contact Sam Gradel (education@nawcc.org) after you have registered for the workshop to select your color and model.

Quantity remaining of each color, updated daily:

Note the difference in case style between the Mikal (left) and Lakin (right). The internals are identical aside from color; the only difference is in the structure of the case.

Please Note: The clocks used in this workshop are new. Once disassembled, the one-year warranty is void. The School of Horology will do everything possible to ensure proper operation of the clock during and after the workshop. The School cannot be held responsible for missing, lost, or damaged parts of the clock during the workshop. Please contact Sam Gradel if you have questions.
