Using a Micro Mill for the Beginner

Using a Micro Mill for the Beginner
(WS-120)
with Jerry Kieffer

This two-day workshop is an introduction to the use of a micro mill or tabletop milling machine. It is a hands-on workshop open to both the beginner and the advanced student. Procedures for machining horological watch and clock parts will be provided; these same procedures can basically be used for any small part. Participants will learn the basic setup of a small mill and the utilization of common and readily available tooling. Machining procedures covered in this workshop are the same as used by manufacturers to produce watch and clock parts.

The following topics will be covered:

Milling machine characteristics

Milling machine setup

Selection of readily available tooling

Precision drilling, boring, and milling

Crossing and Skeletonizing

Precision bushing and depthing

Equipment & Materials:
All materials, supplies, and machinery will be provided. Be sure to bring safety glasses and any magnification devices (visors, loupes) you may need. These items will be provided if you do not have them.

Arrive a day early and enjoy the National Watch & Clock Museum!
