Description: This two-day workshop is open to beginners as well as advanced students. While not necessary, basic knowledge of lathe and milling machine procedures will be helpful. The workshop will center on both watch and clock applications, but the procedures can be utilized for all types of construction. The use of commercial cutters, machining of cutters, and duplication of tooth forms will be covered.
Topics will include:
- Background and calculations
- Machinable materials
- Available cutters and cutter construction
- Options for holding work
- Indexing options
- Machining cutters
- Machining wheels and pinions
- Crossing and other configurations
Equipment & Materials: All materials, supplies, and machinery will be provided. Be sure to bring safety glasses and any magnification devices (visors, loupes) you may need. Safety glasses and magnifiers (visors) can be supplied if needed.
