Mentorship in Clockmaking
Mentorship in Clockmaking
Description: Whether you’re looking for a new hobby or just interested in mechanical things, this clockmaking mentorship is your starting point. The NAWCC School of Horology is offering a five-day introductory clockmaking workshop with Ken De Lucca, Education Director and Sam Gradel, School of Horology Coordinator.
This mentorship is designed for beginners, and the subject clocks will be limited to time-only or time/strike pendulum clock mechanisms that must be approved by the instructor. Learn everything from diagnostics to repairs and restoration in a hands-on, guided workshop environment. Additionally, participants will visit the National Watch & Clock Museum’s Conservation Studio, Research/Study Collection areas, and the Fortunat Mueller-Maerki Library & Research Center for individual research opportunities.
For details on the workshop syllabus, subject clocks, and supplies, or if you have any questions about the mentorship, please contact the Education Director at kdelucca@nawcc.org.
Tools: Please bring your own binocular magnifier (visor) or similar device and safety glasses. Visors and safety glasses are available if needed but remain the property of the School of Horology. A bench notebook and pencil/pen are essential. Hand-outs will be provided on various tasks to be completed, along with formal presentations related to clock repair and restoration on an as-needed basis. Reading assignments will be given for each evening during the mentorship.
